Shikhar Dhawan: How Did He Get the Name ‘Gabbar’?

Dhawan’s Retirement

Shikhar Dhawan, also known as ‘Gabbar,’ has retired from international and domestic cricket at the age of 38. Dhawan, who has been away from the Indian team for a while, will no longer be seen in the IPL either. With no hopes of returning to any format of international cricket, he decided to announce his retirement.

Why Is He Called ‘Gabbar’?

In an interview, Dhawan revealed how he got the nickname ‘Gabbar.’ He explained that during a Ranji Trophy match, he was fielding at silly point. When the opposing team formed a big partnership and his teammates were disappointed, Dhawan shouted, “Bahut yaarana hai suar ke bachchon!” (Very friendly, piglets!). His coach, Vijay, heard this and gave him the nickname ‘Gabbar.’ The name became so popular that cricket fans around the world now call him ‘Gabbar.’
