Australia’s Under-19 women’s cricket team is set to play a tri-series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. The T20 tri-series will run from September 19 to September 26, and there will also be a tri-series in the One Day format. Three Indian-origin players have made headlines by being included in the Australian squad for this series. Their names are Hasrat Gill, Samara Dulvin, and Ribya Sayan.
- Samara Dulvin: She is a right-handed batswoman who has previously represented the Australian Under-19 team against England.
- Ribya Sayan: She is known for her right-arm fast bowling and is recognized as an all-rounder who also bats reasonably well.
- Hasrat Gill: She also bowls fast and has played matches against Sri Lanka and England for the Australian team.
Hasrat Gill hails from Amritsar, India, but her family later moved to Australia. In the tri-series against Sri Lanka and England, she was the top wicket-taker and also contributed 48 runs with the bat. Gill has previously played for Melbourne Stars in the Women’s Big Bash League.
The selectors have chosen a 15-member squad for both the T20 and One Day tri-series. Each team will play 4 T20 matches and 2 One Day matches. Former Australian player Kristen Beams has been appointed as the head coach for this team.
Cricket Australia has commented on the inclusion of these three Indian-origin players, saying that it reflects the growing diversity in Australian cricket and the importance of Indian players in the sport.
