Ashwin Creates Historic Record: First Cricketer in 147 Years of Test Cricket to Achieve This Feat

India’s star cricketer, Ravichandran Ashwin, made a big record on Thursday by scoring his sixth century in Test cricket. His century helped India reach a big total. At one point, India was struggling at 34 runs for three wickets, but Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant’s partnership helped steady the team. Then, a record partnership between Ashwin and Jadeja took the team past 300 runs. With his sixth century, Ashwin created a huge record. He became the first cricketer in 147 years of Test cricket history to achieve this

.

Ashwin has scored six centuries and 14 half-centuries in Test cricket, making a total of 20 scores of 50 or more. He has also taken over 30 five-wicket hauls, with 36 in total. He is the first cricketer in the history of Test cricket to have 20 scores of 50+ and 30 five-wicket hauls.

The special thing is that Ashwin achieved this milestone at his home ground in Chennai. This was his second century at this ground. At one point, India was at 144 runs for six wickets. Then, Ashwin and Jadeja completely dominated Bangladesh’s bowling attack. Ashwin also scored the fastest century of his Test career.

Ashwin has made four Test centuries while batting at number eight or lower. New Zealand all-rounder Daniel Vettori holds the record with five centuries while batting at number eight or lower in Test cricket. The 38-year-old Ashwin has an excellent record at Chepauk Stadium. In five Tests at this ground, he has scored over 330 runs with an average of more than 55. This includes two centuries and one half-century.

Ashwin has also taken 30 wickets at Chepauk with an average of 23.60. His best bowling figures here are 7 wickets for 103 runs. Ashwin is now part of an elite group of all-rounders like Garfield Sobers (West Indies), Kapil Dev (India), Chris Cairns (New Zealand), and Ian Botham (England), who have taken multiple five-wicket hauls and scored centuries at the same ground in Test cricket.
