During the upcoming Shravan month, all meat shops on the Kanwar Yatra routes in Delhi will remain closed. This big announcement was made by Delhi’s Culture and Tourism Minister, Kapil Mishra, on Wednesday. He said the decision was taken to respect the religious feelings of the Kanwar pilgrims.
🛑 Most Shops are Illegal – Minister Says
Kapil Mishra said that most of the meat shops on the Kanwar route are illegal and will be shut down during this holy period. He also mentioned that no exceptions will be made.
🔍 MCD Will Enforce the Order
While reviewing preparations for the Kanwar Yatra across Delhi, Kapil Mishra said,
“The Delhi government and MCD have clearly decided to close meat shops on the Kanwar route. Since most of these shops are unauthorized, they will be closed with no relaxation given.”
He added that the administration will ensure there are no unwanted incidents during the yatra.
📅 Kanwar Yatra from 11 to 25 July
This year, the Kanwar Yatra will be held from 11 to 25 July. Thousands of devotees walk long distances during this time to bring holy water from the Ganga, Yamuna, and other sacred rivers and offer it at Lord Shiva temples.
In Delhi, large crowds are expected on various roads, so the government wants to maintain peace and religious harmony.
🕉️ Full Inspection of Yatra Routes
Kapil Mishra, along with BJP MLAs Ajay Mahawar, Tilak Ram Gupta, Anil Sharma, Pradyumn Rajput, and Sanjay Goyal, inspected the yatra routes and camps — from Apsara Border to Karol Bagh.
The Delhi government now aims to make Kanwar Yatra in Delhi just like in Haridwar and other famous holy places — with a focus on pilgrims’ comfort and respect for religious traditions.
