A new political debate has started in Mustafabad, Delhi after newly elected BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht suggested renaming the area to Shivpuri or Shiv Vihar. He said that since the majority of the population belongs to the Hindu community, the name of the area should reflect their identity. He also announced that he would propose this name change in the first session of the assembly.
Congress Criticizes the Name Change Proposal
Congress spokesperson Ragini Nayak strongly opposed the suggestion. She criticized BJP leaders, saying that they were focusing on changing names instead of development.
“Delhi has given BJP a huge responsibility after 27 years, but instead of delivering on promises for a 5-trillion-dollar economy and development, they are busy renaming assembly constituencies,” she said.
Real Issues Ignored, Says Congress
Nayak further stated that BJP had promised financial help to women and cleaning the Yamuna River, but now they are trying to distract people from real issues.
She asked, “Did people vote for BJP just to change Mustafabad’s name? Big names don’t matter; real development does.”
A Growing Political Dispute
The proposal to rename Mustafabad has now turned into a major political controversy. While BJP claims it is about cultural identity, Congress believes it is a strategy to divert attention from important public issues.
It remains to be seen whether the proposal will be formally presented in the assembly and how Delhi’s political scene will evolve in response to this issue.
