Australia has received a massive setback as star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to a back injury. His participation in IPL 2025 also looks doubtful.
Details of the Injury
Marsh played in the Test series against India, but after a string of poor performances, he was dropped for the final match. He later appeared in a Big Bash League game but struggled with fitness. Now, reports suggest he may miss part of IPL 2025, which starts on March 23, while the Champions Trophy kicks off on February 19.
Cricket Australia’s Statement
Cricket Australia released a statement:
“Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy due to persistent lower back pain and weakness. The national selection panel and the medical team decided to withdraw him from the tournament for his recovery.”
They added, “His back pain has worsened in recent weeks, and his rehab will take time.”
Replacement Yet to Be Announced
Australia has not yet named a replacement for Marsh. However, rumors suggest that Jack Fraser-McGurk, a hard-hitting batter, may get the chance. Additionally, Beau Webster, who replaced Marsh in Tests, is also a strong contender.
