The United States, under President Donald Trump’s orders, has launched a large-scale deportation campaign against illegal immigrants. On Monday, February 3, a U.S. military aircraft left for India, carrying a group of deported Indian nationals. According to Reuters, an American official confirmed that the flight will reach India within 24 hours.
First Deportation Under Trump’s Return to the White House
This is the first deportation involving India since Trump’s return to the presidency. He had earlier discussed the issue of illegal Indian immigrants with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar. India agreed to take back about 18,000 illegal immigrants.
Military Assistance in Deportation
The Trump administration has sought help from the U.S. military for this operation. Additional troops have been deployed along the U.S.-Mexico border, and military bases are being used to house illegal immigrants temporarily.
To deport these immigrants, the U.S. is using military planes. Similar deportation flights have already been sent to countries like Guatemala, Peru, and Honduras. India is the farthest destination for this deportation campaign.
Discussion Between Trump and Modi
Last month, President Trump spoke with Prime Minister Modi over the phone about illegal immigration. Trump expressed confidence that India would take the right steps by accepting the return of its illegal immigrants. According to the White House, the conversation was positive, with both leaders discussing ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
