Shreyas Iyer Wins ICC Player of the Month Award During IPL 2025 — A Rare Achievement

Published on

In the middle of IPL 2025, Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer, who is leading Punjab Kings this season, has received a big honor from the ICC. Iyer won the Player of the Month award for March because of his excellent performance in the Champions Trophy.

He beat New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy and Rachin Ravindra to win this award.

Shreyas Iyer’s Brilliant Performance

Iyer scored 243 runs in the Champions Trophy — the most by any player in the tournament — and played a key role in India’s success.

With this award, India has now won the ICC Player of the Month for two months in a row. In February, Shubman Gill won it. This is only the second time in history that two Indian male players have won this award in back-to-back months.

His Performance in Numbers

  • In March 2025, Shreyas Iyer played 3 matches and scored 172 runs at an average of 57.33.
  • In the group match against New Zealand, he made 79 runs from 98 balls, including 4 fours and 2 sixes.
  • In the semi-final vs Australia, he scored 45 runs from 62 balls.
  • In the final match against New Zealand, he scored 48 runs from 62 balls.

Only Second Time in ICC Award History

The last time Indian male cricketers won the Player of the Month award back-to-back was in 2021.

  • Rishabh Pant won it in January 2021
  • Ravichandran Ashwin in February 2021
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar in March 2021

Since then, this is the first time it’s happened again in 2025.

Georgia Voll Wins Women’s Player of the Month

In the women’s category, Georgia Voll from Australia won the Player of the Month award for March 2025. She beat Annabel Sutherland from Australia and Chetna Prasad from the USA.

Voll made her international debut in December last year and played an important role in Australia’s 3-0 series win against New Zealand in March:

  • 50 runs from 31 balls in the first match
  • 36 runs from 20 balls in the second match
  • 75 runs from 57 balls in the third match

Interestingly, this is the fourth time in a row an Australian woman has won this award.
