Earlier this year, Preeti earned a bronze medal at the World Para Athletics Championships 2024 in Kobe, which qualified her directly for the Paris Paralympics final. Although she did not win a medal at the Para Asian Games last year, her bronze medal at the Paralympics has brought joy to 1.4 billion Indians.

Three Medals in 90 Minutes
India had a strong start at the Paralympics on August 29, and on August 30, the country won its first, second, and third medals. Before Preeti, Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal won gold and bronze medals, respectively, in shooting.

Avani Lekhara defended her gold medal from the Tokyo Paralympics by winning gold again in the women’s 10 meters Air Rifle competition. Mona Agarwal also won a bronze medal, sharing the podium with Avani. Preeti Pal’s bronze medal has further boosted India’s medal tally. India now holds 11th place on the medal table with 1 gold and 2 bronze medals.
