GT vs SRH: BCCI Fines Ishant Sharma After Gujarat Titans’ Victory – Here’s Why

Published on

In the IPL 2025 match on Sunday, Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad easily. Chasing 153 runs, Gill remained not out on 61, helping his team win with 20 balls to spare. Mohammed Siraj was the Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling – 4 wickets for just 17 runs in 4 overs.

But after the match, BCCI fined Ishant Sharma, a player from GT, for breaking the IPL Code of Conduct.

Why Was Ishant Sharma Fined?

Ishant Sharma was fined 25% of his match fee and given one demerit point. The reason: he violated Level 1 of Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct during the match against SRH at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

In the official statement, the IPL said:

“Ishant Sharma has accepted the offence under Article 2.2 – Level 1 violation of the IPL Code of Conduct. For such offences, the match referee’s decision is final and binding.”

While the exact details of the violation weren’t made public, Ishant accepted the penalty without contest.

Poor Performance by Ishant Sharma

Apart from the fine, Ishant also had a disappointing performance in the match. He gave away 53 runs in 4 overs at an economy rate of 13.25, without taking a single wicket. In contrast, other GT bowlers helped restrict SRH to just 152 runs.

Team Updates

  • Gujarat Titans (GT) had lost their opening match at home to Punjab Kings.
  • Since then, GT has made a strong comeback, winning three matches in a row, and is now at 2nd place on the points table.
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) started with a win but have now lost four straight matches, putting them at the bottom of the table.
