Emergency box office collection day 3: In a major relief for Kangana Ranaut, her latest historical biographical drama Emergency saw an uptick in footfall and box office collections on Sunday, following a sluggish start during its initial two days in theatres. Directed, co-produced and headlined by Kangana herself, Emergency has finally crossed the Rs 10 crore mark in the domestic market, although it still has a long way to go before reaching the break-even point.
On Sunday, the movie recorded an India nett collection of Rs 4.35 crore, marking a 20.83 per cent increase compared to its Saturday figure (Rs 3.6 crore). Given that Emergency, which marks Kangana’s solo directorial debut, opened to a nominal Rs 2.5 crore, the improved Sunday earnings provide a much-needed boost to the movie, pushing its total domestic nett collection to Rs 10.45 crore.

During the day, Emergency recorded an overall occupancy rate of 18.96 per cent in the Hindi market. Despite a weak start with just 8.23 per cent occupancy during morning shows, the numbers saw a sharp rise to 20.47 per cent in the afternoon, peaking at 30.57 per cent for evening shows before dropping significantly to 16.58 per cent during the night screenings.
Nonetheless, considering that the movie has been mounted on a reported budget of approximately Rs 60 crore, Emergency’s path to commercial success appears challenging since the film has managed to collect only Rs 10 crore over its opening weekend. Adding to its woes, Emergency has mostly received mixed reviews from all quarters.
Although Emergency’s first Sunday collection is better than that of Kangana’s recent box office bombs such as Thalaivii (Rs 1.85 crore), Dhaakad (Rs 98 lakh) and Tejas (Rs 1.2 crore), it is considerably lower than some of her lesser disappointments like Judgementall Hai Kya (Rs 8 crore), Panga (Rs 6.60 crore) and Chandramukhi 2 (Rs 8 crore).
