Beware! New UPI Payment Scam – Avoid This Mistake While Sending Money

Published on

A new type of fraud related to UPI payments has been discovered. If you use UPI for transactions, you need to be extra careful. Scammers have found a new way to trick people and empty their bank accounts. Sometimes, they pretend to be a delivery agent or offer prize money to scam people. Now, a new scam involving UPI payments has come to light.

How the Scam Works?

A user shared a video on X (formerly Twitter), showing how scammers trick people. In the video:

  • A scammer pretends to be a bank representative and asks the user to update their KYC.
  • The scammer sends a fraudulent link and asks the user to visit a specific website.
  • The user is then asked to enter their UPI PIN on the fake website.
  • However, the user realizes the scam in time.
  • Many people, unfortunately, fall into this trap and lose their money.

How to Stay Safe from UPI Scams?

  1. Never share your UPI PIN, OTP, or passwords with anyone. As per RBI guidelines, banks never ask for such details.
  2. Avoid clicking on unknown links sent via SMS, email, or WhatsApp. Scammers often send fake links that can steal your information.
  3. Beware of fake payment requests. Scammers may send links asking you to accept payments, but these actually deduct money from your account.
  4. Ignore calls or messages about KYC updates, prize money, delivery, or courier services if they seem suspicious.

By being careful and following these safety tips, you can avoid falling victim to UPI scams. Stay alert and always verify before making any transactions!
