Shikhar Dhawan Retires: No More IPL or International Cricket

Retirement Announcement

Shikhar Dhawan has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. He shared this news on his social media accounts and thanked his fans for their support. Known as ‘Gabbar,’ Dhawan played 34 Test matches, 167 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and 68 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) for India. During his international career, he scored over 10,000 runs.

Dhawan’s Retirement Message

In a video posted on X and Instagram, Dhawan said, “My only goal in life was to play for India. I am grateful to have achieved this goal. I thank many people for their support.” He first thanked his family and then his childhood coach, Taarak Sinha, who has since passed away. He also expressed gratitude to Madan Sharma, from whom he learned the skills of cricket. Dhawan thanked his teammates as well.

Dhawan added, “Just like you need to turn pages to move the story forward, I am now doing the same. I am retiring from both international and domestic cricket. I am content that I had the chance to play many matches for my country. I also thank BCCI and the fans.”

No Regrets

Dhawan mentioned that he does not feel sad about not playing for India anymore. Instead, he feels happy and proud to have had the opportunity to represent India for so long.

Last Match for India

Dhawan’s last match for India was an ODI against Bangladesh in 2022. Unfortunately, he could only score 3 runs from 8 balls in that game. The same match saw Ishan Kishan make a historic 210 runs from 131 balls. India won the match by 227 runs.
